Feeney wins & takes Championship lead from teammate Brown

The duo, who have replaced Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen as the faces of the famous franchise, have backed up their impressive results from the season opener in Bathurst in February, to finish first and second in the first of four races of this weekend’s MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

Third went to Ford’s kiwi Matt Payne, the Penrite Racing Mustang driver crossed the line fourth, but a five second time penalty to Nick Percat meant Payne claimed third position on the podium.
Feeney, who has now won two out of three races to start 2024, now leads the Championship points tally by 2 points over Brown. Chaz Mostert remains third, 32 points behind Feeney, 21-year-old Payne is fourth. Brown and Brodie Kostecki.
It’s the youngest average age for podium winners, bettering the record set in Race 9 of the Perth SuperSprint in 2023 when Feeney led home Brown and Brodie Kostecki at 23 years and 234 days. The new record is now 22 years 11 months and 4 days.
"That's bloody awesome. That was an interesting race. We just tried to manage it as best as we could out front. And then put the pace down at the end to try and get that fastest lap,” Feeney said.
"I just love racing here. It's such a cool place and it's been a hectic day, a pole, a win and a fastest lap. It's pretty bloody good.
"We were just trying to manage it a little bit. He had some real good pace through the middle there. So, I just tried to put the hammer down a little bit at the end just to make sure I had no pressure.
"Unreal for the team. Another one-two. That's two out of three for the year. So, it's been a ripper start, but we've got a long way to go."
In a race with no pit stops and no tyre changes it was a dash from start to finish. Feeney started from Boost Mobile Pole Position and was led into the opening turn by the Shell Ford of Anton De Pasquale but recovered to lead from midway through the first lap until the end of the race.
Behind the top three was Mostert ahead of Cam Waters, Nick Percat, De Pasquale, James Courtney, Todd Hazelwood and Jack Le Brocq who rounded out today’s top ten.
Today’s race was the first of four for this weekend’s SuperSprint event.
Cam Waters will start tomorrow’s race from pole position in the Monster Energy Mustang which will begin at 2:55pm local time.
All Supercars sessions at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint will as part of the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix will be live and ad free on Foxtel and Kayo.
