During its time, the XA Falcon garnered recognition as the first all Australian designed Falcon and marked a significant milestone for Ford in Australia. It was the first Falcon GT model to offer both a 4-door sedan and a hardtop variant. Building on the triumph of the GTHO's at Bathurst in '70 and '71, the XA continued its winning streak at Mt Panorama, securing victories in '73 and '74. These were truly exceptional years for the XA Falcon.

For the first time, Ford took on the task of designing cars entirely in-house. The designers departed from the previous XR through XY range's subtle brick-like appearance and embraced a more aerodynamic and flowing "Coke bottle" body design. Inside the vehicles, a new wrap-around cockpit-style dash and high-backed bucket seats were among the notable features.
